Employers are required to pay their employees at least the federal minimum wage, which is currently $7.25. States, however, may enact laws that provide for a higher minimum wage than that required by federal law. On January 1, 2011, seven states increased their minimum wage. These seven states are Arizona, Colorado, Montana, Ohio, Oregon, Vermont and Washington. The table provided below shows the amount of the increase in the minimum wage in these states and the new minimum wage in 2011.
