On 26 November 2021, the Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam signed Decision No. 1994/QD-TTg on the plan to reduce and simplify regulations related to business activities within the scope of state management functions of the Ministry of Information and Communications ("MIC") in 2020-2025 ("Decision 1994").

According to the proposed plan, among others, many administrative procedures related to the provision of G1 video games (video games that have interaction among multiple players via the game server) will be abolished, including procedures for the issuing, amending and supplementing, reissuing, and renewing of the Permit to provide online video games. Correspondingly, the plan also proposes to abolish many business conditions for the provision of G1 video games.

Decision 1994 is expected to lighten the administrative burden currently shouldered by enterprises whose business activities are administered by the MIC.

Although Decision 1994 is effective upon issuance, revisions to the current Laws and Decrees are needed to implement the plan.

The legal documents to be revised include, but are not limited to, Decree No. 72/2013/ND-CP on the management, provision, and use of Internet services and online information; Decree No. 27/2018/ND-CP amending and supplementing a number of provisions of Decree No. 72/2013/ND-CP; Decree No. 150/2018/ND-CP amending certain decrees on investment and business requirements, and administrative procedures in the information and communications sector.

Will Vietnam get set and ready for taking to a next level? Stay tuned.
