Recently, China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) released 2022 statistics on patent and trademark, which mainly involves the following aspects.
- Patent
A total of 798,000 invention patent applications, 2,804,000 utility model patent applications, and 721,000 design patent applications were granted patent rights throughout the year. About 74,000 PCT international patent applications were received, and 63,000 patent reexamination cases and 7,900 invalidation cases were concluded. Chinese applicants submitted 1,286 applications for international registration of industrial designs through the Hague Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Industrial Designs.
By the end of 2022, the amount of valid patents for invention in China was 4.212 million. Among them, the amount of valid patents for invention in the mainland (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) is 3.28 million. China became the first country in the world with more than 3 million valid domestic invention patents.
- Trademark
A total of 6.177 million trademark applications were registered throughout the year. About 169,000 trademark opposition cases were examined. A total of 412,000 trademark review cases were heard. There are 5,827 applications for international registration of Madrid trademarks submitted by domestic applicants.
In 2022, CNIPA established 10 national IP protection centers and fast track IPR enforcement centers nationwide, bringing the number of the two centers to 97. The relevant centers provide the same rapid and collaborative protection services as domestic enterprises for foreign capital or joint ventures registered in the regions. At present, more than 2900 foreign capital and joint ventures have been recorded in the national protection centers and the fast track enforcement centers.
