The Cayman Islands Trade Marks Law, 2016, Design Rights Registration Law, 2016, and Patents and Trade Marks (Amendment) Law, 2016 were implemented on August 1, 2017. A significant next step for improving the intellectual property rights system in the Cayman Islands would be for the British Overseas Territory to become a member state of the Paris Convention, which is not provided for in the recently-implemented law.
