The firm of Montaury Pimenta, Machado & Vieira de Mello was formed in 2010 when two of the leading Brazilian Intellectual Property firms Montaury Pimenta, founded in 1939 by Edgard Montaury Pimenta and Vieira de Mello, founded in 1929 by Júlio Vieira de Mello joined forces.
The merger of the firms was a natural fit as both firms shared a common background, a commitment to upholding the highest ethical and legal standards, and long, distinguished histories in the Brazilian legal market. The firm of Montaury Pimenta was initially known for its expertise in civil and corporate law. However, in 1985 the firm expanded its Intellectual Property practice by developing an extensive portfolio with an emphasis on international clients. For their part, the Vieira de Mello firm built a strong and equally solid reputation among the leading Intellectual Property firms in Brazil, primarily working with major domestic corporations.
As their respective Intellectual Property practices grew, both firms were known for their diverse and internationally recognized portfolio of clients, as well as noteworthy small businesses and individuals. The firms’ mutual quest for quality, efficiency and above all, results – together with their strong commitment to uphold the highest ethical standards – were the determining factors that lead to the partners’ decision to join forces by consolidating their practices in 2010.
With its main office located in the heart of Rio de Janeiro at the Brazilian Jockey Club building, together with a satellite office in the city of São Paulo, Montaury Pimenta, Machado & Vieira de Mello brings together highly experienced and capable attorneys, patent attorneys, engineers and industrial property agents and paralegals practicing in the field of Intellectual Property law.
