Petr’s practice focuses on international commercial arbitration, investment treaty arbitration, public international law, and the protection of foreign investments. He has a successful track record of advising clients in complex international disputes, particularly those relating to Central and Eastern Europe and Latin America, before various arbitral institutions and under various arbitration rules.
Petr has experience working with clients in a number of industries, including mining and mineral processing, electricity generation, supply and distribution, photovoltaic (solar) power generation, telecommunications, satellites, oil and gas, real estate, chemicals, banking, waste management, airport construction, port management, duty-free services, and sovereign debt.
He was a key member of White & Case LLP’s international arbitration teams which secured wins for clients, including an award of US$740 million for the Canadian gold mining company Gold Reserve against Venezuela in an investment treaty arbitration concerning Venezuela’s deprivation of Gold Reserve’s rights to develop the Brisas gold and copper mining project, a US$877 million award for Československá obchodní banka, a.s., a leading Czech bank, against the Slovak Republic, and the dismissal of claims for the Republic of Bulgaria in multiple investment treaty arbitrations.
