Mr. Ajay Kumar is the managing partner of KLA Legal. He specialises in aviation leasing and finance, advising on leasing, financing, repossessions, insolvency and the structuring of various cross-border aviation matters. His clients include manufacturers, aircraft and engine lessors, leading banks and financial institutions globally. Ajay also has vast litigation experience, and has been involved extensively in various repossessions and bankruptcy-related matters, including Kingfisher, Jet Airways and GoFirst. He has worked closely with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India to bring about amendments to the Aircraft Rules in line with India’s commitments under the Cape Town Convention, and is involved with the Indian government's ambitious GIFT City project. He has been instrumental in setting up units of various lessors at GIFT City. He speaks regularly at various conferences across the globe and is one of the most sought-after aviation lawyers in the country.
He also serves on various government committees, including the standing committee on aircraft leasing and financing in GIFT IFSC, legal advisory panel of the Aviation Working Group and is the website officer of Aviation Law Committee at the International Bar Association.
