Ruth Higgins SC is a commercial silk specialising in competition law, class actions, energy, media, corporate criminal and corporations matters. She has been included in Best Lawyers Australia since 2008, in Chambers Global since 2011, and is listed in Doyle's Guide as a preeminent silk in competition law, with listings also in commercial litigation, insolvency law, and media and telecommunications law.
In competition law, Ruth has successfully acted for ANZ, TPG, Pacific National and AGL in contested merger proceedings against the ACCC, for the ACCC in the High Court in Flight Centre, for the Commonwealth in the CMFEU agreed civil penalties case, and for the CDPP in the first two modern criminal cartel prosecutions. She has acted for Epic Games, Apple, Mastercard, Cement Australia, the Australian Jockey Club, NSW Ports, Hutchinson and others in Part IV proceedings.
In consumer proceedings, Ruth has acted for entities including Google, Telstra, Vodafone, Qantas, Woolworths and Westpac.
Ruth is the current President of the NSW Bar Association and a director of the Australian Bar Association. She is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law, an Assistant General Editor of the Australian Law Journal, and a Fellow of the Australian Centre for International and Commercial Arbitration.
