2021 Ports series | Managing port environmental impacts: key issues and implications in 2021

Holding Redlich

Description

Date: Tuesday, 23 March 2021

Time: 13:00 Australian Eastern Standard Time (Queensland)

Duration: 1 hour

Climate change is on everyone’s mind these days, and ports are often in places that will be heavily exposed to it. Various levels of government are looking at this problem, but ports are generally outside those processes due to their unique land tenures.  So what does this mean in practice in 2021?

This session will consider the implications of handling climate change like this, and what ports should be looking at now.

It will also review issues such as managing environmental impacts that are not directly within the port’s control, but which ports are often left to deal with, for example, PFAS.  How does this affect ports’ reporting responsibilities, environmental record and even their directors’ duties? What do directors need to know?

In 2021, rising sustainable business practices mean there’s an expectation these things are at the forefront of ports operations, and also at the forefront of governance arrangements.  We will update you on what you need to know.
