FDIC urges banks to ensure proper disposal of stored data

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation issued guidance to financial institutions warning of the risks to data that might be stored in places people might not realize -- photocopiers, fax machines, and printers -- warning that such devices "may contain a hard drive or flash memory that stores digital images of documents that are copied, transmitted or printed by the device," and that these images "may contain sensitive and confidential information concerning financial institution customers."
