Congress amends the FMLA to provide additional family military leave

Last week, President Obama signed into law the National Defense Authorization Act of 2010 ("the Act"), which, among other provisions, expands the two categories of family military leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act ("FMLA"), exigency leave and servicemember caregiver leave.

Earlier this week, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court held in Difiore v. American Airlines that a service fee charged by American Airlines for curbside check-in should have been paid to the skycaps.


Massachusetts Appeals Court reinstates $195,000 in emotional distress damages for disability discrimination

Recently, the Massachusetts Appeals Court reinstated an order of the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination ("MCAD"), requiring the City of Boston to pay $195,000 to Diana Sabella, a teacher in the Boston Public School system, for emotional distress she had suffered as a result of disability discrimination.
