Supreme Court further restricts scope of specific personal jurisdiction

The Supreme Court recently issued a unanimous opinion in Walden v Fiore, reversing the Ninth Circuit's holding that Nevada had specific personal jurisdiction over an out-of-state defendant who had known that the alleged harm would affect residents of Nevada. Walden is the latest in a string of recent Supreme Court decisions that have curtailed attempts to expand personal jurisdiction.

Nevada authorises interstate online gambling arrangements

The governor of Nevada has signed legislation that enables the state to enter into agreements with other states that legalise interstate online poker. The move follows a memorandum from the Department of Justice suggesting that it no longer believes that non-sports related online betting and wagering (eg, online poker) is prohibited by the Wire Act.
