The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has extended the deadline for certain 340B discount drug program participants to comply with the group purchasing organization (GPO) prohibition from April 7, 2013, to August 7, 2013.

The extension was announced via an update to the HRSA 340B program online FAQs (see answer to question: When does HRSA consider covered entities in violation of the GPO prohibition?) and HRSA maintains that there will be no further extensions.

The GPO prohibition restricts certain 340B entities (disproportionate share hospitals, children’s hospitals and free-standing cancer hospitals) from obtaining covered outpatient drugs through a GPO.
