The ITC initiated an investigation into the trade barriers that small- and medium-sized enterprises ("SMEs") confront in their exports to the European Union. The focus of the investigation is to catalogue the barriers that disproportionately affect SME manufacturers and other exporters in comparison to those affecting larger enterprises. The ITC's public report, expected in early 2014, will highlight ways to enhance SME trade during negotiations on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership.
The ITC's report will be based primarily on information provided by SMEs. The ITC has scheduled two hearings on the issue. The first is scheduled for September 26 at the NASA Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, CA. The second is scheduled for October 8 at the ITC in Washington, D.C. The ITC also is accepting comments from the public. Information on submission deadlines and the investigation procedures is provided in the ITC's notice of investigation and Federal Register notice announcing the hearings and opportunity for public comment.
