On April 1, 2014, the President signed into law the Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014. Section  212 of this law prohibits the Secretary of Health and Human Services from adopting the ICD-10 code  sets as the standard prior to October 1, 2015. Accordingly, ICD-9 will remain the standard code set until  at least October 1, 2015, absent an intervening change in the law. This will likely be a source of  frustration for those providers who were already planning, implementing and training for ICD-10, and  create further difficulty in planning for the adoption of ICD-10.
