Industry opposes BLM’s extensive re-evaluation of Roan Plateau. The West Slope Colorado Oil & Gas Association is objecting to the Bureau of Land Management’s (“BLM”) re-evaluation of its plan to allow drilling in the Roan Plateau, arguing that the exercise is unnecessary and wasteful. BLM is working on a supplemental environmental impact statement (“SEIS”) in response to a court decision finding that the 2007 environmental review failed to evaluate fully the plan’s impacts on air emissions. Instead of only addressing air emissions, the SEIS is reconsidering all potential environmental impacts. The Association submits the new review is causing unnecessary delays through a review process beyond the court’s decision. Environmental NGOs have urged BLM to cancel all of the gas leases issued under the plan.
