Work is under way on plans to address congestion and long term capacity issues on and around the strategically crucial A14, following the announcement by the Government on 18 July 2012 to proceed with a scheme. The plans include a new bypass and two new roads as well as upgrades and improvements along the existing A14 carriageway. It is expected that funding for the scheme will be generated partly through tolling a stretch of the A14, although research into the viability of options is ongoing and details are yet to be finalised. Subject to agreements with local authorities on a funding package and decisions at the next Spending Review, construction work could begin by 2018. press-releases/dft-press- 20120718b/
