The Government has announced that it is bringing forward the review of the default retirement age (DFA) from 2011 to 2010 as a result of the change in the economic circumstances since the DFA was initially introduced. However, no changes will be made until 2011 in order to allow employers time to prepare and employees time to consider their retirement plans. The Age Positive Initiative, a Government scheme aimed at encouraging the recruitment and retention of older workers, will be extended to encourage employers to give employees more choice over their retirement.
