The European Commission has published a speech by Charlie McCreevy (European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services) entitled The Blueprint for the Development of European Financial Services - The Legislative and Regulatory Programme. In his speech Mr McCreevy discusses the Commission’s current direction, what it has achieved to date and what it sees as the key challenges that lie ahead. In particular Mr McCreevy mentions that the Commission is actively monitoring the implementation of the Code of Conduct (clearing and settlement) and that things are going well. He also states that the Commission will publish a White Paper on mortgage credit in the coming weeks and in early 2008 the Commission will make public its proposals to improve the legal framework for investment funds (UCITS).
