By a majority of eight to three the Supreme Court today (24 January 2017) dismissed the Secretary of State's appeal and holds that an Act of Parliament is required before ministers can trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty. The court also ruled, however, that the Scottish Parliament and Welsh and Northern Ireland assemblies did not need a say.
