Recently, the China Ministry of Health issued for comment two related draft regulations which we have translated into English at the links that follow.  One draft is intended to revise the approval regime applicable to drinking water sanitization and a second to update regulation of disinfectants and disinfectant apparatus.  The comment period on both is open until August 15.  Both of these drafts represent efforts by China to modernize its biocidal products regulatory regime and to take account of the international nature of the biocides industry.  They present a valuable opportunity for companies with an interest in theses aspects of the market for biocides in China to provide input.

The two draft regulations will establish the process for approval of drinking water sanitization devices and chemicals and the substantive requirements that must be met.  The drafts include specific requirements for products manufactured in China and those that are imported, with the latter requiring documentation from other countries in which they are approved.

The solicitation of input on these drafts is a step toward transparency in Chinese regulation of biocidal products.  Comments on the drafts are due by August 15.
