• A resolution adopted by the European Parliament on November 15, 2007, identified EU’s key objectives for the forthcoming United Nations Conference on Climate Change. Among those objectives are binding target figures for all industrialized nations, a global emissions trading system and a 50% reduction in greenhouse gases by 2050 (Europolitics, November 19, 2007, p. 9)
  • European Union Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas has welcomed as “vital reading for decision-makers” the synthesis report published on November 17, 2007, by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The report’s findings amount to a stark warning that the world must act fast to slash greenhouse gas emissions and to prevent climate change from reaching devastating levels.
