Minnesota-based Xcel Energy has agreed to shut down two of its coal-fired power plants in Colorado in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The Colorado Public Utilities Commission approved last week Xcel’s plan to reduce emissions. Not only will Xcel shut down the two coal plants, it will also add around 1,000 MW of wind and solar power.
