On January 9, 2013, the Victims General Law (“VGL”) was published in the Federal Official Gazette (Diario Oficial de la Federación), which will come into force on February 8, 2013. 

The VGL has within its main purpose to recognize and guarantee the rights of those individuals who were victims of  criminal offenses as well as of those individuals, whose human rights were violated, in addition to establish and coordinate the actions and measures necessary to promote, respect, protect, guarantee and allow an effective exercise of the victims’ rights, among others.

There are certain problems in the structure of origin of the VGL that are important to be highlighted and recognized, topics that are covered in our summary thereof.
