Cathy Geyer is the newly-appointed Deputy Director of the Ohio Department of Insurance (“ODI”). Prior to joining ODI, Ms. Geyer was employed at Nationwide Insurance in the Office of the Chief Legal and Governance Officer in Columbus, Ohio. Ms. Geyer has extensive experience, both in-house and in private practice. She started her career as an insurance defense and coverage attorney at Rendigs, Fry, Kiely & Dennis in Cincinnati and also worked at Motorists Insurance Group in their legal department.
She is the past Chair of the Ohio State Bar Association’s Insurance Law Committee, past Chair of the Insurance Audit Practices and Controls Committee and a member of the Staff Counsel Committee.
A number of additional ODI staffing positions were also recently announced: Jillian Froment, the former Marysville City Administrator, will be the new chief administrative officer at the Department; Sue Real will serve as the Department’s Chief Policy Officer; Michael Farley will head ODI’s Legislative Affair Division; Carrie Haughawout will oversee issues related to health policy.
Last week, the Ohio Department of Insurance announced the retirement of Bill Rossbach, who most recently served as Chief Regulatory Officer. Mr. Rossbach joined the Financial Regulation staff in 1976 and was promoted to Assistant Director in 2003 before being named Chief Regulatory Officer in February 2008. As Chief, he managed the Department’s Risk Assessment Division; Product Regulation and Actuarial Services Division; the Fraud, Enforcement and Licensing Division; and Consumer Affairs operation. Mr. Rossbach’s retirement is effective February 28, 2011, and his replacement has not yet been named.
