The National State Administration of Industry and Commerce (“SAIC”) and the Ministry of Commerce (“MOFCOM”) recently appointed a new vice minister respectively. The newly appointed vice ministers shall supervise the antimonopoly division of the two authorities.

Recent Appointment by SAIC

In May 2013, Mr. SUN Hongzhi was appointed as Vice Minister of SAIC to supervise the Antimonopoly and Anti-unfair Competition Enforcement Bureau of SAIC.

Mr. Sun was born in Jilin Province in September 1965. He earned a master degree in engineering and a doctor degree in management at Jilin University.

Mr. Sun is a specialist and senior researcher in engineering. He worked in Changchun Coal and Science Center from 1995 to 2001. Mr. Sun later served in Jilin Coal and Industry Bureau from 2001 to 2006. He was later promoted to the Mayor of Songyuan City in Jilin Province. Mr. Sun had served as the Director General of the Department of Advertising Regulation in SAIC since 2011. In May 2013, he was appointed as Vice Minister of SAIC to supervise the Antimonopoly and Anti-unfair Competition Enforcement Bureau1.

Recent Appointment by MOFCOM

In June 2013, MOFCOM designated Vice Minister Mr. WANG Chao as the director of the Anti-Monopoly Bureau on the ministry level.

Mr. Wang was born in Hebei Province in April 1960. He graduated from Guangzhou Institute of Foreign Languages, majoring in English. Mr. Wang was a visiting scholar at Georgetown University College of Law from January 1998 to May 1998.

Mr. Wang Chao served as an official in foreign trade related departments for over 30 years. He started his career in 1982 when he worked in the Bureau of Aid to Foreign Countries of the Ministry of Economic Relations with Foreign Countries and later the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade (MOFERT). He joined the Department of American and Oceanian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Cooperation (“MOFTEC”) in 1982, and was promoted as Director General of the department in 2002. In 2006, Mr. Wang was promoted as Director General of the Department of International Trade and Economic Affairs of MOFCOM. He was appointed to supervise the Anti-Monopoly Bureau in June 20132 .
