On 30 September, the Department of Energy and Climate Change published Guidance on Carbon Neutrality, advising that “Carbon neutral means that – through a transparent process of calculating emissions, reducing those emissions and offsetting residual emissions – net carbon emissions equal zero”. The Guidance document provides an overview of the process that should be followed to achieve carbon neutrality as well as pointers to existing recognised standards and guidance. The Guidance includes three sections providing information on how to calculate emissions, on what constitutes and how to report a reduction in emissions and on carbon offsetting.
