The Companies Bill is currently set to reach the report Stage in the Dail this evening (25 March) and to finish this stage tomorrow, 26 March. Originally three full days had been set aside, but this has since been cut to this evening and tomorrow.

There are no less than 282 proposed amendments at this stage alone (there were around 150 at the last stage in November), with around 260 of these being Government amendments.

The number of amendments required to be made demonstrates that, in reality, the Bill is still being drafted as it progresses through the legislature, which is perhaps not surprising given the scale of the reform which will be introduced to Irish company law when the Bill is enacted and commenced.

A summary note of some of the major new changes being introduced will be circulated in due course after these debates have concluded.
