Interim limits affecting Tier 1 (General) and Tier 2 (General) have now been in force since 19 July 2010. The Coalition Government has since been consulting on the level of the limits and how the system should operate in 2011. The MAC has been tasked with reviewing the state of the British economy and jobs market with the aim of arriving at a suitable level for the caps.

The MAC report on the new immigration limits is due to be published on 18 November 2010. The report will recommend the level of the limits on Tiers 1 and 2 of the Points Based System that will apply under the permanent immigration limits to be implemented in April 2011.

We will provide detailed comment on the MAC report once published and the Coalition Government is due to announce its plans for the permanent limits following the MAC report in late November/early December 2010.
