The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Power approved, 14-6, the No More Solyndras Act July 25. After voting down a Democratic amendment that would have put the program on hold, the measure would phase out the Department of Energy’s loan guarantee program by prohibiting the agency from making any commitments for loan guarantee applications received after 2011 but allowing the department to process applications that are already in the pipeline, using its $34 billion in loan guarantee authority to do so. Companion legislation is unlikely to be introduced in the Senate, and has little change of passage even if it was. The full committee will vote on the legislation August 1.
