The Commission has approved the acquisition of ABN AMRO assets by the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and Spanish bank, Santandar. In May 2007, a consortium made up of RBS, Santandar and Fortis proposed to split the assets of Dutch bank, ABN AMRO, between the three banks. Although the Commission has approved the acquisitions by RBS and Santandar, a decision is yet to be made regarding the assets to be acquired by Fortis. This decision is expected by 3 October 2007.
