The COMESA Competition Commission (CCC), which commenced operations in January 2013, has reviewed more than 48 mergers to date. Although it has been in operation for a relatively short period of time, the CCC has reviewed a number of notable mergers, such as those between PPC Cement and CIMERWA and between Puma Energy and Exel Swaziland. In addition, although the CCC has a maximum period of 120 days to review a merger, the maximum period of time it has taken to a review a merger has not been more than 80 days.
