On June 15, 2017, the Ministry of Education issued the regulation No. 15.0733 "Regulation for Healthy School Cafeterias and Stores".

The objective of these regulation is to regulate and control the commercialization of foods with a high content of fat, sodium and sugar and of all those that do not contribute to a healthy diet within the schools' stores and cafeterias of the educational institutions (public or private). It is also aimed to promote healthy eating habits and lifestyles within the student population and their families.

The regulations establish as nutritional criteria, the amount of critical nutrients (such as sugars, sodium, total fats, saturated fats, trans fat and sweetener) that will be allowed for sale in schools.

It also includes requirements for the opening and operation of school stores and cafeterias and the promotion/advertising of food in the mentioned institutions.

A transitional period of 6 months is established for the validity of the regulation, so that all educational establishments take the necessary actions for its compliance.
