The European Chemicals Agency (ECH A) has listed 38 chemicals as potential “substances of very high concern” (SVHC ) for possible restriction under EC 1907/2006, the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (RE ACH ). The substances have been added to a “registry of intentions” for SVHC status. Adding substances to the registry is a preliminary stage in the process of banning the most hazardous chemicals under RE ACH . The 38 substances were identified from screenings of carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic substances that have been registered under RE ACH . The listed substances include several compounds of lead, industrial chemicals such as diethyl sulfate, solvents such as 1-bromopropane, and pesticides such as dinoseb.
