Indiana businesses should be aware of an ongoing scam in the form of a letter soliciting an annual fee for record keeping and processing of a company's annual minutes. The letter cites a state law that does not actually exist, and appears to come from a legitimate government agency.
Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita warns that this solicitation is not an official correspondence from Indiana's Business Service Division or any other Indiana state agency.
The Secretary of State's office is instructing all businesses who have received this letter to ignore it. If your business has already paid the bogus fee or if you believe you are a victim of this scam, contact Indiana's Business Services Division at (317) 232-6576.
