On April 16, 2010, President Obama signed the Continuing Extention Act, which included an extension of the COBRA subsidy assistance program. The COBRA subsidy assistance program has previously been extended twice before to include certain involuntary terminations through Febuary 28, 2010 and then March 31, 2010. With the current extension, employees who are involuntarily terminated through May 31, 2010, and otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for the COBRA premium subsidy, will be eligible to receive subsidized premium payments for continuing health care coverage elected under COBRA for up to a 15-month period.
