In one of the biggest anti-corruption stories in Hong Kong this year, the ICAC arrested Raymond and Thomas Kwok, two real estate magnates who serve as the joint chairmen of Sun Hung Kai Properties in March 2012.  On July 13, 2012, the ICAC charged the Kwoks and three others with bribery and other offences involving misconduct and other malfeasance. It was alleged that the Kwoks made payments and unsecured loans to the former Chief Secretary of Hong Kong in excess of US$4 million in return for confidential information used to obtain construction contracts. The matter has been adjourned until 12 October 2012.
