On 1 July the Serious Fraud Office appointed Simon Duckworth as a non-executive director. The appointment is intended to strengthen the SFO's ties with the City where Mr Duckworth is a high profile name.

Mr Duckworth adds the role to his current positions as Chairman of both the City of London Police Authority and the National Olympics Security Oversight Group. Outside of the public sector, Mr Duckworth is a Chairman of Barings Targeted Return Fund, having joined the Board in 2004; and a non-executive director of Fidelity European Values plc (a FTSE 250 Investment Trust) since 2003 and Accumuli plc (an AIM IT Managed Security business) since 2010.

The appointment follows an announcement by the Home Secretary Theresa May in June that the SFO would not be broken up and merged into the Government's new National Crime Agency.
