In preparation for 21 December 2012 (the date from which it will no longer be permitted to offer differing premiums and/or benefits to policyholders based on gender), the Irish Insurance Federation has published a consumer information leaflet on their website. The leaflet explains the implication of the Test-Achats ruling, the types of policies will be affected by it, and other information such as potential effects on insurance premiums. Unsurprisingly, the leaflet states that, while the effects on costs of premiums is not certain, women may see an increase in their motor insurance premiums and men’s motor insurance premiums may decrease.
