On 12 June 2009, the Minister for Finance announced the publication of the Financial Measures (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2009 (the Bill). The Bill, if enacted, will result in amendments to certain Irish insurance legislation i.e. the Insurance (No.2) Act 1983 and the Insurance Act 1989. At present, the FR can present a petition to the High Court for the administration of a non-life insurance undertaking and the appointment of an administrator, but cannot do so for a life or reinsurance undertaking. If the proposed legislative changes come into force, the FR will have the same powers in respect of life and reinsurance undertakings.
