UAE PUBLIC OFFICIAL SEEKS RESTRICTION ON THE RECEIPT OF GIFTS AND DONATIONS FROM THE PUBLIC  

Colonel Dr. Jassim Al Bakr, Head of the Human Resources Policies Suggestions team at the UAE's Ministry of Interior, has called for restrictions on employees accepting gifts and donations from members of the public. The proposal was voiced during a workshop organised by the Directorate-General of Strategy and Performance Development at the General Secretariat of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior on human resources policies at the Ministry of Interior. As well as addressing policies for the acceptance of gift and donations, the workshop also covered recruitment and selection processes.

PASSPORT CONTROL OFFICER ACCEPTS DH 2.65M IN BRIBES TO FALSIFY EXIT REPORTS   

An employee of Dubai's General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners' Affairs (GDRFA) was sentenced to two years' in prison and fined Dh 2.65m (USD 721,480) after being found guilty of accepting bribes and forging official documents between 2007 and 2012.

A tip-off about the employee's activities led to an internal investigation and subsequently a trial before the Dubai Criminal Courts. It was discovered that the employee had been using his authority to access GDRFA’s electronic system in order to forge transactions showing that departure fees for over 5000 individuals were collected despite the fact that none of those individuals had left the country.
