The current U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Form I-9, used by U.S. employers in the process of verifying employment eligibility, expires August 31, 2012.

As a new version of Form I-9 has not yet been released, the USCIS has instructed employers to continue using the current Form I-9, available at, beyond the August 31, 2012 expiration date.

The USCIS further informs stakeholders that it will provide updated information about the new version of Form I-9 as it becomes available.

By way of background, all U.S. employers must complete and retain a Form I-9 for each individual hired for employment in the United States, including citizens and noncitizens. In order to accurately complete the Form I-9, an employer must examine and document evidence of employment authorization and identity, and retain certain records for access by the government if necessary.
