A measure that eliminates joint and several liability in civil cases for defendants found to be less than 60 percent liable has been introduced in the House as HB 1.

The General Assembly approved a nearly identical bill in 2004, but it was vetoed by Governor Rendell. Governor Corbett has indicated he will sign such a bill into law if it reaches his desk. The measure is a top priority for House and Senate Republicans, who have strong majorities in both chambers.
