Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus and House Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp said that they will hold a series of public meetings around the country on tax reform in an effort to learn how the tax code affects "ordinary people." Camp also indicated that the committees will hold joint meetings on tax reform, although no specific dates have been scheduled.
The Senate Finance Committee will hold its last closed-door meeting on June 20 and will release its last tax reform options paper. In a recent interview, Baucus said, “If we don't reform the tax code in this Congress, we won't. . . . If we're into presidential season, I think it's very difficult to pass tax reform in that context," However, Baucus added that tax reform "may not be in this session."
