  • On November 5, 2007, the European Parliament’s Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection is expected to discuss the European Council’s common position on the Community Customs Code designed to update the EU’s current legislation dating from 1992. This new Customs Code aims, among other, to improve customs action for consumer and product safety, as well as fight against counterfeit goods, money laundering and drugs (Europolitics, October 22, 2007, p. 5) 
  • On October 26, 2007, Russia’s Economic Minister Elvira Nabiullina and EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson signed a trade agreement on steel products whereby the quota for Russian steel imports into the EU would raise by 20% in 2007 (Europolitics, October 22, 2007, p. 10)
