On February 10, 2011 the Government of Nova Scotia released the "Guide to Considering Climate Change in Environmental Assessment in Nova Scotia" and the "Guide to Considering Climate Change in Project Development in Nova Scotia". The guidebooks were produced by the Climate Change Directorate of the Department of Environment. They are intended to assist project developers in considering climate change in project development and environmental assessment in Nova Scotia. The guides give useful technical advice on how to incorporate climate change issues into a project's design and operations plan, and give proponents step by step advice on how and where to incorporate climate change into a project's environmental assessment.
Both guides are useful not only as specific guidance as to how regulatory authorities in Nova Scotia might expect proponents to address climate change issues in an environmental assessment, but also more generally to proponents preparing project descriptions and environmental impact statements in respect of projects across Canada.
