The federal government is currently carrying on a consultation concerning the manner in which Canada should fulfill its obligation to adopt rules requiring annual reporting of payments exceeding $100,000 made by Canadian oil and gas and mining sector extractive companies, in Canada and abroad, to all levels of government, including First Nations governments.  Canada intends to align its rules, in many respects, with those already in effect  in the European Union (Transparency Directive) and the United States (Dodd-Frank Act). The consultation ends May 9th.
