The Office of Fair Trading has announced a pilot scheme under which it proposes to pay financial rewards of up to £100,000 to individuals offering valuable “inside” information relating to uncovering illegal cartels between businesses to fix prices and/or share markets. The information is required to be accurate, verifiable and useful in assisting to uncover undetected anti-competitive activity. The scheme will run for an initial 18 month period after which an assessment will be made as to whether it will be made permanent.
