The U.S. Department of Energy looks to kickstart offshore wind development through a $43 million investment in 41 projects over the next five years. According to Energy Secretary Steven Chu, the program is designed to "speed technical innovations, lower costs, and shorten the timeline for deploying offshore wind energy systems." Both Freshwater Wind 1, LLC of Cleveland and Nautical Windpower LLC of Olmsted Falls received $500,000 In addition, Case Western Reserve University received $540,000 for work on offshore wind's impact on the existing grid.
