BP has delivered a blow to plans of the British government to move to cleaner energy technologies. Last week BP announced that it was pulling out of the competition to build the country’s first ever coal-fired power plant with carbon capture and storage technology. A BP spokesman said, “We came to the conclusion that we could no longer put together a winning consortium.” On top of pulling out of the CCS competition, they also decided to pull out of Britain’s wind industry based on the belief they would see better returns on the investment of wind in the United States.
